Green Butte ridge runs up the south side of Mount Shasta, separating Avalanche Gulch and the Old Ski Bowl. The volcanic rock is incredibly colorful. The Green Butte summit seen in this painting is a hefty hike from the top of Everitt Memorial Highway. Climbers are rewarded with incredible views and fulgurites… the glassy tracks in the rocks that are formed when lightning strikes, melting and fusing the surface.
