Murals

Painting murals is a delightful community focus for my art and they all seem to incorporate a view of tour iconic mountain.  The murals above show Mount Shasta from two different sides. The top mural is in the town of M. Shasta, and pictures the mountain with a rushing stream, two black bears, and multiple small details hidden in the design. The “Hoy Park” mural shows the mountain from a lovely neighborhood park in the Lake Shastina community north of Weed.

Tahulindauli Park along the Sacramento River in Dunsmuir is the setting for a wildflower mural, with detailed local wildflowers covering three sides of a dark green utility building.

The Siskiyou Agriculture mural covers the long south side of the County Cooperative Extension office and 4H headquarters in Yreka.  It was painted as a tribute to Steve Orloff, a well loved farm advisor, working with the UC Davis Cooperative Extension for 33 years, helping local farmers.  Click the photo for a larger view.

This bothersome bear displays his Italian heritage with preference for pilfered pizza!  Find him poking his nose out of the alley next to the Mt. Shasta Fire Station in downtown Mt. Shasta.

Sleeping bear is another of the unexpected bears of Mt. Shasta. He snoozes in a tucked away corner of the Mt. Shasta Police Department building.

A storage container becomes beautiful with a mural of the mountain and a small fairy.

Dunsmuir visitors can find plenty to do in the surrounding area by simply standing next to City Hall and studying the Treasure Map mural. The Chamber of Commerce even has a printed guide to all the landmarks and activities.
