The rusty browns of bare branches glow against blue sky and mossy green pine forest. Blue shadows stripe the snow beneath the trees, while the icy aqua river flows silently through the frozen landscape.
I’m a plein air painter – which means that I paint landscapes outdoors, creating a watercolor of the scene in front of me. This is a problem in the wintertime. Kind of difficult to sit in a snowbank for several hours.
This delightful scene, however, presented itself through the glass doorway of a studio at Breitenbush Hot Springs in the mountains of Oregon . I sat in the warm interior and painted the wintertime beauty outside! The building was destroyed in a forest fire a few years ago, but the beautiful river flows on.
